Pacific Parkinson's Research Centre Designated a Centre of Excellence

The Pacific Parkinson’s Research Centre has been approved for redesignation as a Parkinson’s Foundation Centre of Excellence (COE), based on a review conducted in July 2024. The review process examined PPRC’s annual report, followed by an onsite review by a group from the Parkinson’s Foundation Global Care Network, supported by Foundation staff.

Reviewers were impressed by the Centre, highlighting excellence in the following areas:

  • Dedicated, collaborative team, with strong leadership and wonderful partners

  • Appreciation of Elaine Book, PPRC Coordinator, former and current Medical Director(s) Jon Stoessl, Martin McKeown, and Silke Cresswell, and others, for their involvement with the Foundation for many years

  • The Brain Wellness Program is a wonderful addition and a highlight of the Center

  • Robust and diverse research efforts (The Center for Brain Health has a strong commitment to PD research)

  • A well-established fellowship program

  • Weekly clinical and research meetings

  • Excellent Newly Diagnosed Patient Pathway (RN/NP outreach)

  • Numerous opportunities for allied health education

  • Efforts to support community providers with the RACE (Rapid Access to Consultative Experts) program

  • Outstanding contributions to professional education with the Canadian Residents Movement Disorders Program

The term of the designation will be five years.
