Porridge for Parkinson’s is an annual fundraiser for Pacific Parkinson’s Research Institute that highlights our firm belief in the ability of individuals making a significant difference in the fight against Parkinson’s. To date, this event has raised over $3 million in BC alone.

This year, while the world battles COVID-19, we at Porridge for Parkinson’s North Shore are eager to continue our search for the cure for Parkinson’s. We are closer than ever to finding it but progress is held back only by lack of funding. Approaching this year’s event with social distancing in mind, we’ve cooked up a unique way to carry on the breakfast tradition safely.

In recent weeks, we’ve delivered hundreds of Porridge Packages to friends of PPRI with an invitation to join us for breakfast on Sunday, September 13, 2020, from the comfort of their own homes. Whether our recipients or someone they love has Parkinson’s, or if they’ve simply been a supporter of the cause, we welcome everyone to learn more about the work being facilitated by PPRI, and support research project by donating by mail or online here.

With the help of CKNW’s Larry Gifford, we are sharing updates regarding advancements in diagnosis and treatment. We are very excited to hear from world-class medical researchers and neurologists Dr. Martin McKeown and Dr. Silke Appel-Cresswell from the Pacific Parkinson’s Research Centre (PPRC) at UBC (see videos below). As always, every cent raised for PPRI goes towards their groundbreaking work and research.

Our aim is ultimately to create a world without Parkinson’s whilst helping those affected right now by this cruel and debilitating disease gain easier access to excellent medical care. Canada’s largest research program is located right here in BC, led by Dr. Martin McKeown, and is a world leader in several important pieces of the puzzle in curing Parkinson’s disease.

We invite you to support this important work by donating online today. For more information on ways to donate, please visit our Donate page. If you are interested in participating in Porridge for Parkinson’s next year, please email us at info@pacificparkinsons.org.
